Commissions

Thank you for your interest in doing a commission with me!

Custom paintings are a wonderful way to capture and commemorate your memories, significant places or special objects. For example, a painting of the location where you and your sweetie got engaged- or the family vacation spot from when you were a kid!- can fill your heart with joy every time you look at it. An original painting brings a life and spirit all its own that a photograph doesn't always convey.

Whether you'd like to have a piece created for yourself or for a loved one, my process makes it as stress-free as possible and includes you in the journey from start to finish.

Commission FAQs

What sort of things will I paint for you?

I would love to paint a landscape, still life, or abstract piece for you. At this time I'm not taking portrait commissions (including pets).

What is the commission process like?

The first step is completing the commission request form to help me get a sense of what you're looking for. After I receive your message, I'll contact you to discuss your vision and options. If you want to move forward, a 50% deposit is required to begin the commission. We'll also complete the commission agreement together. This is a contract that protects both of us in the event that things don't go as planned (this has never happened to me, but it's good to be prepared!). After I receive your deposit and the contract, I'll start working on your piece.

Your piece: First, I'll make some sketches and send those to you along with color swatches. If you like the direction it's heading in, I'll work the piece to 90% completion. At that point, I'll send you a picture and you have the ability to request up to 2 minor edits. If you desire a significant edit (taking more than 1-2 hours), I'll ask for an additional $40 per hour. After the painting is complete, I'll collect the remaining 50% and any additional fees for edits or framing. Then I'll varnish, sign and date it, and install the hanging wire or frame. Finally, I'll carefully package and ship the piece to you!*

* Local clients - I'll hand deliver the piece to your door. :)

How much time does it take?

Acrylic pieces have a 3-4 week lead time.

Because oil paintings require a significant amount of time to fully dry, the lead time on oil pieces is generally 8 weeks.

How much does it cost?

My pricing has some flexibility and I'm happy to work with you to determine the size and materials that will fit your budget.

The minimum for commissions is $250. This ensures that I have ample time to understand your vision, communicate my plan with you, and create the piece. Hanging hardware is always included. If you like, I can also work with you to choose a frame (price of frame not included), and will do the actual framing for you for an additional $40.
