Custom paintings are a wonderful way to capture and commemorate your memories, significant places or special objects. For example, a painting of the location where you and your sweetie got engaged- or the family vacation spot from when you were a kid!- can fill your heart with joy every time you look at it. An original painting brings a life and spirit all its own that a photograph doesn't always convey.
Whether you'd like to have a piece created for yourself or for a loved one, my process makes it as stress-free as possible and includes you in the journey from start to finish.Start the Commission Process
I would love to paint a landscape, still life, or abstract piece for you. At this time I'm not taking portrait commissions (including pets).
The first step is completing the commission request form to help me get a sense of what you're looking for. After I receive your message, I'll contact you to discuss your vision and options. If we then decide to move forward, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin the commission. We'll also complete the commission agreement together. This is a contract that protects both of us in the event that things don't go as planned (I do not anticipate this happening but it's always good to be prepared!). After I receive your deposit and the signed contract I'll start working on your piece.
Your piece: First, I'll make some sketches and send those to you along with color swatches. If you like the direction it's heading in, I'll work the piece to 80-90% completion. At that point, I'll send you a picture and you'll have the option to request up to 2 minor edits. If you desire a significant edit I'll add an additional $40 per hour. After the painting is complete, I'll collect the remaining 50% and any additional fees for shipping, edits or framing. Then I'll varnish, sign and date it, and install the hanging wire and frame [if applicable]. Finally, I'll carefully package and ship the piece to you!*
*Local clients - I'll hand deliver the piece to your door. :)
Acrylic pieces have a 3-4 week lead time.
Because oil paintings require a significant amount of time to fully dry, the lead time on oil pieces is generally 8 weeks.
My pricing has some flexibility and I'm happy to work with you to determine the size and materials that will fit your budget.
The minimum for commissions is $300. This ensures that I have ample time to understand your vision, communicate my plan with you, and create the piece. Hanging hardware is always included. If you like, I can also work with you to choose and install a frame (cost of framing is not included in the estimates below).
*This information is for estimation only; depending on the specifics of your piece, the price could vary a little. I can make your painting any size; the dimensions listed are there to provide a frame of reference.
